Op-ed: This is yet another sad story of animal abuse by a sorry excuse for a human being but once again it is being made public in the hope that there will be real justice for the dog involved and that British judges and law enforcers will get their act in order and hand down proper sentences to those found guilty of such abuse.
The following forms a petition - "Petitioning: The Honorable Sentencing Judge from Bury Magistrates Court.
20-year-old Jordan Smith is accused of pounding, kicking and even whipping his Staffordshire bull terrier during a three-month span. The disturbing attacks were witnessed by shocked neighbours in Rochdale, England. Some of them were recorded and now serve as valuable evidence against the defendant.
This writer does not agree with corporal or capital punishment but might opt for the first in this case.
Perhaps a tough of the lash or birch might make him realise the pain and suffering he inflicted on this animal.
But maybe he only knows a life of violence and it would have little effect.
What he does need is a tough sentence and not a half ass one. A lifetime ban on animal ownership must be included.
If you will be so cruel to a defenceless animal, one that relies on you for food, love and shelter, you are a worry to society as a whole.
And when Prince Charles says he may make sure the RSPCA drop the R let him read this story and remember the sterling work the RSPCA does each and every day. The fact he enjoys hunting says it all.
The animal charity will still be widely supported with or without the royal seal of approval.
