The Feds looked at charging Dzokhar with terrorist charges and US Federal investigators said "If he is charged with using a weapon of mass destruction to kill people, he could face the death penalty".
During the trial lawyers acting on behalf of Dzhokhar said he played a part on the bombing but his elder brother was the driving force. The prosecution however assessed the brothers as equal partners in crime.
When the verdicts for each charge were read out today the court was silent; a court official had issued a warning demanding there was silence and no emotional outbursts as guilty, guilty, guilty rang through the court.
The trial will enter a second phase and the jury decide the sentence which could be death. That may start as early as next week. The jury took 11 hours to return the guilty verdicts.
