Our MEPs were meant to have a series of votes on the deal today [Wednesday]. But when it looked like they might vote in favour of scrapping some of the worst parts of the deal, the president of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, cancelled the vote. This is huge!
The official reason for cancelling the vote was the huge number of amendments which would make a vote impossible in the timeframe allowed.
Unofficially it is suspected the reason was that MEPs previously in favour of the trade deal had changed tack and would no longer offer their support. In danger of losing the vote cancelling was the only way out of a tight hole.
