Op-ed: Friday for a second night running some English football fans in France have clashed with opposing fans meaning that important security services are having to waste time and money to control footie idiots who should know better.
Think that is too harsh? Well think again.
France has been determined to host EURO 2016 and is doing so against the odds.
With wounds from recent terror attacks in France still raw they could have simply said move along but they did not.
Last week parts of France including Paris experienced significant rainfalls which lead to flooding but the authorities vowed that EURO2016 would go ahead.
Yes there is money to be made from such international football events but the cost of security and policing will be huge.
Friday's opening match is host nation France up against Romania.
But Thursday night drunken English football hooligans became embroiled in angry violence in the port of Marseille. Four French police officers sustained "light injuries" in the violence
Friday they are 'at it again' and police wearing full riot gear have used tear gas as they try to restore order.
Friday night ahead of England's first match Saturday those same fans are roaming the streets, boozing to excess and getting into brawls.
It will not be all English fans and football supporters from other countries may be in the mix but at time of writing Welsh and Irish fans are not involved.
England's first match is against Russia and will be played Saturday in Marseille.
I wonder how many across the English Channel are hoping England is out of EURO2016 and fast as they want the so-called football fans gone?
It is high time they were taught a tough lesson.
Arrest those involved in hooligan activity and lock them up until EURO2016 has ended.
Then make them serve a year-long jail term in France before they are deported back to Blighty.
Once back in the UK ban them from football matches for say five years and issue a high fine which will go toward the cost of policing in France and more.
Then let's see which of these so-called fans of the so-called beautiful game are up for more.
The hooligans will hopefully just be a minority of people causing problems; rent-a-mob or maybe rent-a-gob making waves and spoiling the event for all.
And while security and police are busy sorting out childish brawls, spats and arguments real terror threats, thieves and other rogues may have a field day.
If you are in France for EURO2016 remember you may be the only person from your country that a French man or woman has ever met.
Don't condemn the rest us to wear the drunken yob label.
Good luck to France and Romania Friday and to the real football fans have a great competition.
The rest of you the world is watching.
There has been more trouble ahead of Saturday's England versus Russia game with some in both camps being blamed.
Saturday the Telegraph reports "England fan fighting for his life after and dozens more injured as English fans and Russian thugs clash ahead of Euro 2016 Group B match in Marseille."
Marseille resembled a war zone on Saturday night after Russian and English football hooligans clashed in running battles that left one supporter fighting for his life.
The above however will not explain away all three days of violence!
