Opinion: President elect Donald Trump continues to show the world he is a big petulant overgrown child.
This time he is verbally attacking veteran actress Meryl Streep.
Streep was awarded a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes Sunday, using her time in the spotlight to criticise Trump but without naming him.
"It kind of broke my heart," she told the Golden Globes audience in Beverly Hills on Sunday as she picked up the Cecil B DeMille award reports BBC News. "This instinct to humiliate, when it's modelled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody's life. "Because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing."
She was referring to Trump's public humiliation of a reporter with disabilities.
Her carefully chosen words were thinly veiled criticism of Trump.
Trump chose to respond by his usual method, social media.
He tweeted: "Meryl Streep, one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. "She is a Hillary flunky who lost big" he added.
In another tweet he said "For the 100th time, I never 'mocked' a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him 'groveling' when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!"
I wonder if Trump is familiar with Shakespeare and the phrase he doth protest too much methinks!
Surely Trump's parents taught him attack is the poorest form of defense?
Streep is a popular three-time Oscar-winning actress.
Trump will be inaugurated as the next POTUS on January 20, 2017.
The fact he is not yet President has not stopped him making announcements and speaking out of turn, more often than not on social media.
His tweets have been so childish and petulant at times this Yorkshire woman has been wondering if one of his kids or grandkids is running the show.
While he may think this look is appealing it is not. Voters fed up of political elite ruling the roost may have voted for Trump but they voted on his words that he would drain the Washington swamp, lock Hillary Clinton up and build a wall between the USA and Mexico with Mexico footing the bill.
He is still just President elect but he has been back pedalling at speed.
He has drained the swamp and filled it with more dangerous establishment critters. He has openly told his supporters that locking Hillary up was just for the election spin and the wall looks set to become a fence with US taxpayers funding it.
One by one promises are melting like snow; promises that swayed some of the US electorate to vote Trump.
Perhaps Trump will curb his social media activity when he becomes POTUS? Perhaps he will morph into a statesman?
Perhaps he will grow up but don't hold your breath.
The next four years will be interesting but whether in a good or bad way remains to be seen.
