This is not the first crack down on twerking in Russia in recent weeks but this time the war memorial puts a different twist on events.
"“This incident of disrespect for the memory of war history is unacceptable and any attempts to desecrate sites of military glory will be stopped immediately,” one prosecutor said."
And if it was twerking in the UK, USA or Canada in front of a WWII war memorial would we in the west agree?
Another case sounds totally different. "Officials in the city of Orenburg, near Russia's border with Kazakhstan, shut down a dance school after another video surfaced on YouTube showing a dance troupe of girls ages 15-18 twerking in Winnie the Pooh costumes."
The west has accused Russia of using WWII as a major propaganda exercise; next month celebrations will mark the 70th anniversary of the Allied victory in World War II.
But isn't that what all countries do?
"The Malaya Zemlya memorial, completed in 1982, which is seen behind the twerkers, commemorates a battle to free Novorossiysk from German occupation in 1943." "We condemn these women. Every inch of this land is covered in blood. It is inappropriate,” said Viktoriya Dikaya, the press secretary for the city’s education department."
Opinion: Twerking is just another silly trend which will have its day but it will be replaced by another controversy. Remember Bob Dylan and those words - Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command? That's life.
