Breaking news: A major incident in New Jersey, New York, has killed at least one person.
The fatality is named as Fabiola Bittar de Kroon, 34; she was among those waiting in the terminal. She was hit by flying debris and killed.
A packed rush-hour commuter train crashed into a packed train station Thursday morning and more than 100 people sustained injuries, some seriously.
The number of casualties and fatalities may be revised down or more likely up.
First responders face a huge task and there was a quick call out for additional help.
The train was travelling into Manhattan and the timing means that the train and the station was probably full of people, including many waiting on platforms.
The train reportedly went through ticket barriers around 8.30am local time and into a reception area of Hoboken station causing extensive damage to train carriages and the station. A metal roof at the station is believed to have collapsed.
There are also reports that some people may be trapped in wreckage.
The train was airborne briefly as it crashed before hitting a wall.
People in the front carriages and out in the open are worst affected.
Early reports indicate this was one of those tragic accidents and not terror related but time will tell. The train was allegedly traveling to fast into the station.
The priority now is freeing and rescuing people and making the area safe.
An investigation is underway.
The situation remains fluid.
