A mass shooting described as "domestic terrorism" in the state of Florida has left 50 people dead and 53 injured.
The shooter named as Omar Mateen is one of the dead.
He began shooting in a popular gay dance club called Pulse early Sunday morning.
Mateen grabbed hostages; when police stormed the building the gunman was shot and killed.
His father, Seddique Mateen, denied the mass shooting was anything to do with radical Islam but a Twitter account believed to be affiliated to Islamic State has posted the young man's image online.
ISIL has since claimed responsibilty for the attack. That terror group had called for attacks on the West during Ramadan.
Early reports of 20 dead were quickly edited as the true scale of the tragedy unfolded.

He was born in 1986 to parents from Afghanistan who lived in Port St. Lucie, FL, who law enforcement has characterized as having sympathy for, or ties to Islamic terrorism.
The Pulse Orlando dance club shooting is the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history.
As the drama unfolded the Pulse club Facebook page posted a warning telling people to run.
Police and the FBI are investigating any possible links to terrorist organisations and are trying to identify the victims and notify their loved ones.
"US Congressman Alan Grayson told reporters it was "more likely than not that" the attack was "ideologically motivated", adding that it appeared to be "no coincidence" it took place in a gay club" reports SKY News.
A house in Orlando is the focus of police and FBI personnel time of writing.
A State of Emergency has been declared in the city of Orlando.
