If you are one of the "lucky ones" Christmas 2016 you may be able to afford to help others.
Follow our Advent Calendar of Giving and support just one charity this Christmas if you can but more if you are able.
The 21st Century is proving to be divisive with deep divisions between the rich and poor and in countries such as the UK a self-styled wealthy country malnutrition is on the increase.
But across the world so many people need help.
Day Six our chosen charity harks back to those shoeboxes for Romanian children from a few decades ago. Shoeboxes were used to put a few presents together for children in Romanian orphans;
It is over 25 years since the Cooke family originated the idea of the ‘Christmas Shoebox’, asking children in the UK to fill shoeboxes with stocking fillers for Romanian orphans. In 2015, we celebrated the 25th Anniversary and returned to Cluj-Napoca, Romania to re-visit Dave’s original partner from 1990 Liviu Balas, and brought shoeboxes to the marginalised communities there. The current need is still extraordinary and the power of the shoebox has never faded.
But that way of giving caught on and there are a few appeals this year including;Many are for Eastern European countries.
And many promote the western Christian message or evangelical message of the USA. If that does not sit well with you put together your own shoe box or gift basket and donate locally.
