Scottish Labour Party Members Letter of Support For Jeremy Corbyn

The following has been posted online as a google document. That document offers Scottish Labour party members the chance to sign and show their support for Jeremy Corbyn. This is what it says:

Dear Jeremy,

Nine Months ago a leadership election concluded which for the first time saw the will and the want of the members and supporters of this our party decide who should lead us, not only into the regional elections, not only into the European Referendum and its aftermath. But who should lead us into a rebirth of this party, who should ultimately lead the Labour party into the next general election and beyond.

Since your appointment as leader it is fair to say that some within the party, and specifically some within the parliamentary labour party have never been comfortable with the idea of a true democratic socialist leading our party, they have used any opportunity available to undermine your leadership and undermine the mandate of 251,417 votes for leader which you carry.

It is also vitally important to remember that since your appointment as leader there has been an undeniable change to the nature of the opposition which the labour party has provided to the Conservative Government.

For the first time since occupying the position of opposition we as a party have managed a sustained and consistent level of pressure on the Prime Minister and his Government so to obtain reversals, or re thinks on Saudi Prison contracts, disability benefit cuts, welfare cuts of 4 and half Billion pounds, as well putting a stop to the majority of proposals in another devastating Gideon Budget, I am certain you do not need provided a list of your achievements but it provides a reminder to the wider labour movement that the past 9 months have seen a vast increase in the anti-austerity movement, and the messages from placards and banners across the land have gone from the streets and are now being expressed so well at the dispatch box every week by yourself.

In terms of the party performance since September again we can only see progress, membership has never in modern times been higher, the pantomime of the past week only acting to motivate another reported 60,000 people to join our movement. Across England we have held 4 seats in by-elections, 3 of which saw an increased share of the vote, we have won 4 Mayoral elections, the most important of which in London, which was won by a landslide. Here in Scotland our performance faltered but here we face unique challenges of people holding the colour of flags and nature of constitutions high above the fight for equality, justice and a fairer distribution of wealth.

​The fight for which has never been more crucial in this nation, as well as across the United Kingdom, which is why we the undersigned as proud and active members of the Scottish Labour Party extend our unreserved, unquestionable and absolute support and loyalty to you as leader of our party, your team and your fight for social justice, equality, fairness and in opposing austerity.
