![]() Dear Chuka Umunna - When you read a post in the Guardian on budget day in the UK, Wednesday, titled "Labour backbenchers form high-profile group to respond to budget" you have to go to the heart of the story to try to find out what is going on. Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader of the Labour Party in September 2015 and has faced a barrage of attacks from within Labour, the Tories and the mainstream media so Mr Umunna what's with the latest piece posted as news at the Guardian? Is it news, spin, real or fantasy? According to the Guardian report an "Alliance of MPs including Chuka Umunna and Chris Leslie was formed to ‘give proper scrutiny to the government’" which could be fine if the team was formed with the approval of Mr Corbyn and his shadow cabinet; if it was not why are MPs behaving in such a derisory manner? The Guardian report continues; A team of high-profile Labour backbenchers have organised their own coordinated response to George Osborne’s budget, fearing Jeremy Corbyn and his shadow cabinet would struggle to do so. If that is true it smacks on another Et tu, Brute moment from the very people who should be supporting the party leader and his shadow cabinet; they could and should be sharing their former front bench experience not using it to undermine Jeremy. But the divisions were plain for all to see from day one of Corbyn's leadership when highly paid politicians acted like spoiled children who did not win the egg and spoon race; they ditched the leader, left him to sink or swim while sticking a few daggers in his back and high-tailed it for the backbenches. Having managed to stuff the PLP with politicians to the right of the party the Bitterites are now intent on doing the same to the NEC so that they can undermine Mr Corbyn further and tear the Labour Party apart. Their protestations that they are doing it for the right reasons have no credibility; the road to Hell is after all paved with good intentions. But we are all Labour and there should not be a right and left of this party but rather a left-wing political party working to hold the Tories to account with the final goal removing the Conservatives from office. Reports in the mainstream media that simply undermine Mr Corbyn will not unify, improve Labour's standing or attract votes; and when those reports are by way of self-serving MPs, some who did not want to stand for party leader last year but changed their minds when the first real Labour party leader in years comes along the writing is on the wall. If the Guardian post has caused anger consider worse in the Sun, Telegraph and Huffington Post helped along by a series of Labour MPs who seem unable to air their dirty laundry away from prying eyes and greedy ears who want Mr Corbyn and Labour to fail. Sadly some voters will conclude that you Mr Umunna, Dan Jarvis and others like Jess Phillips simply want a Labour party that is a poor man's version of the Conservative party; they may also conclude that is because you have it all to gain from some Tory policies and some to lose from real Labour Party politics that tries to rebalance the rich poor divide. The Guardian report adds; Allies of Corbyn played down the significance of the backbench alliance, saying the leader would continue to hold the chancellor to account for “six years of failure”. And honest ordinary people like this writer agree with that assessment. So Mr Umunna "Who are Ya" and why are you not doing your job instead of playing politics in divisive gangs? In July 2015 following the General Election the Daily Mirror report "Chuka Umunna: Labour 'behaving like a petulant child' after Election defeat" was aptly titled but isn't that what you and your 'team' are doing now? Eileen Kersey Other signatories include:
And they just keep on coming, some via comments below others from Facebook groups that support Labour and Jeremy Corbyn and his team.
The consensus for this group of people, including the author, is that we are 100% supportive of Mr Corbyn and want our Labour politicians to follow suit. Time the knives were directed across the House at the real enemy-the Tory Party. [Updates will continue plus additional names can be viewed in the comment section below-please let me know if I have any duplicate names] Apologies to those missed on Facebook as it has been tricky to catch everyone-thanks. April 28, 2016-No reply has been received from the Labour Party, Umunna and others. But it is suffice to say this letter was sent to those parties and viewed extensively online and has reached the target. If a reply is ever forthcoming I will let you know asap.

I agree completely with these sentiments and find it increasingly harder to contain my anger at these MPs determined to undermine the good work of Labour's leadership. In a week when polls show that Labour is moving ahead. These self serving career persists, throw out yet another anchor. Is it any wonder the membership feel they are closer to the opposite benches, than the membership they rely on to get them elected.

Support your rightfully elected party leader, resign, or hold your peace. There is no wiggle room here! Blairite "Red Tories" will eventually need to be weeded out to purge the party of the wolves in sheep's clothing who have never worked a real day's labour in their life and support business over unions every time. Go and head up a charity if you want to feel self-important.

The comments seen from potential Scottish voters have been the obvious nationalist who will never forgive Labour for joining the Tories over the IndyRef. However, there have been some none nationalist who say that like change of direction in labour to the left but will not vote whilst the PLP continue to vote down the policies that effect them in Scotland, for example Trident.

I thought I would ask some questions If they are so good at this why did they mess up the last election? Why were Milibands and Balls responses ito previous budget statements so inept? Why did they not provide an effective opposition, which suddenly they seem keen to say they can now do? Why have they not supported their leader in vocalising their anger at the PIP cuts etc.? I could go on but what is the point Chuka can sit in his gentleman club and plot such is the way of the petulant and disloyal.

I'm a member of the GC of Hastings and Rye Labour Party. I think Jeremy Corbyn has done a magnificent job and really risen to his position. He has been the best Labour Opposition leader I can remember going back to 1980. He has had to stand his ground not only against the benches he faces, but the backstabbing ones behind him. Now, having spent the past half year telling him he's doing everything wrong, your group has finally cottoned on to the fantastic job Jeremy is doing and the fact that the vast majority of the party is behind him, and you think you can switch to "shadowing" him instead, in the hope of muscling in on some of his support. You are SO transparent it's hardly believable.

Stop this incessant divisive and mischievous conspiring and start putting the same amount of effort and commitment into opposing this vindictive and ideological Tory government. You have been at it from the day the new leadership took its position after massive support, at the behest at your mentors Blair and Mandelson. We do not want a lighter shade of Tory in the form of Blairism we want real Labour socialist opposition to this government. Do your job along with your fellow conspirators. You know your actions are worse than anything any Corbyn supporters have done. We and importantly, the people of this country need organised opposition to this extreme Tory ideology Tony Blair and his policies and record had already become a liability not an asset. A huge majority of Labour Party members voted Jeremy Corbyn leader of the party and thousands joined because they saw for the first time in a long time, a leader who was real Labour, and that they liked. I all of the party get solidly behind its current leader we will win the next election because by the time this Tory government has damaged the lives of ordinary people even more over the next four years in the way it has so far those ordinary folk will be ready for the radically refreshing change that Jeremy Corbyn can and will bring.

My grandmother, mother, aunts, sisters, cousins and myself have all been members of the Labour Party. My great uncles supported Ellen Wilkison MP during the Jarrow Hunger march. I have been for many years and also do not recall Jeremy Corbyn attacking the policies of Mr Blair when Blair was in power. He did cast his vote against his policies but I never heard anything derisory about the then Prime Minister coming from Jeremy Corbyn. The attacks on Jeremy have been brutal and it's about time that some MPs within the party get the message that Jeremy Corbyn is what the members of the party want as leader. It would appear that the purpose of these constant attacks is to undermine the Labour Party in opposition and to divert attention away from the swift distribution of wealth by this Tory Government to the rich at the expense of the poor. Please kindly add my name to the letter to Ummuna

Get behind the DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED leader or resign your seat. Widdling and stamping in it just because the right wing takeover of the Labour party ultimately failed is unbecoming, and only goes to show exactly what level of respect you have for democracy - which people may remember if and when you finally manage to find a position in a party more suited to your beliefs, and which requires you to stand for any kind of election to office.

Please add my name. Jeremy Corbyn is doing terrifically against all adversity. He has been trying to bring morality, decency, proper intelligence and integrity back into British politics, government and his own party. Yet he gets opposition from both from the Conservative Benches mocking and refusing him to speak for more than a few seconds, and his own party who are not interested in anything except their own careers, opportunity and power nest at the cost of the British People and Country. This country is being sold for a song and all its carefully constructed internal structure disintegrated. This structure to provide stability, fairness and justice was not just here since Labour came in after the war, but right the way back to Magna Carter and King Alfred Common Law and system of hundreds and tithes, to protect the country, administer justice and help bring in revenue for the crown and raise an army if the country was under threat from opposition within or without. It is downright treason and young bucks selling off the house, home and everyone within.

I am a socialist and was a member of the Labour Party until Clause 4 was removed when I resigned my membership. Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonell and the MPs who unite behind them are the best thing that has happened to the Labour Party for the last forty years. The clue here is in the title, the "Labour" Party. Here to protect and promote the interests of the ordinary people, representing those who are suffering as a result of 37 years of constant government on behalf of the privileged. The Labour Party came into its own after a catastrophic split in the Liberal Party in the early 1920s. Don't let the Labour Party cease to exist because of a catastrophic split of its own almost a hundred years later. Get behind the party leadership, work to serve your constituents and pull together to start the thankless task of trying to undo all the damage that has been done in the last 40 years. Or go your own way, but not as members of the Labour Party.

Remember thatchers words "my finest achievement is Tony Blair and new labour). Not only the party but also large parts of the population are far more left wing than the plp. If the right are serious about winning in 2020 they should listen to what the public and what labour party members want. Dignity in politics is not achieved through personal narcissism and pursuing a vain self important agenda. MPs are elected to represent their constituencies and we expect open debate and discussion over political issues not personally motivated bullying and manipulation to achieve a minority self centred objective. If you have something to say, say it upfront in an open room , have that debate and move on.

Well done with letter, expressed my sentiments to the letter. I have been a member since 1984, a Councillor in both Town & Unitary for 20 years. I am totally committed to the Labour Party. Under Blair after 18 years, we won 3 Elections. He was a man of the time. I cried with joy when he won in 97' I believed he would change Britain forever with his massive majorities, I believed he would destroy the Tories and change the Establishment forever. What did he do he carried on with watered down Tory policies. Yes we have the Minimum Wage which is now the normal wage for millions. Yes we have the Academies which is by the end of this parliament, will mean the Privatisation of Education. Yes we have the University places for all, with the debt of £50,000 for all who go. This is the legacy of Blair, not one ounce of Socialism in his genes. nor in those backstabbing our Leader. We have our Party back, after May fight them and go for the Cull.

You and second X 11 sabotaged Corbyn's Leadership from Day 1. You took away your experience and the support a new leader would expect from shadow cabinet. Then complained about chaos in main stream media undermining Corbyn at every stage. Dan Jarvis talked about a coup after EU referendum last March. It was common knowledge in the Westminster bubble. You and your 10 mates have enormously damaged the Labour Party. Childish Petulance has no place in British Politics. The electorate voted you to oppose Tories not your own leader. Your stage managed coup has delighted right wing media and in a time of crisis in the country, rather than opposing Tories you have demeaned your DEMOCRATICALLY elected leader, The Labour Party and most of all yourself as a trusted member of parliament. If Corbyn is not on ballot, do you really think a new leader would be regarded as legitimate!

Please add my name to this letter. I was never more disgusted than yesterday. Umunna may as well have joined the Tories in laughing and cheering the pay cap on our public servants. THIS was the real callenge, and more energy supporting that would have been appreciated. Umunna and his friends have NO credibility, are NOT cool, and are working to bring down our party, while its membership has worked under Corbyn to do the opposite - and worked incredibly hard! If it were not for Jeremy's insistence that we keep giving people another chance and work for unity, the majority of the membership would have seen this band of nasty, Torylite plotters out of a job some time ago! Many of their constituents would gladly see the back of them too - they were rescued this time by the snap nature of May's election. There are masses of talented and able people who would step in and support the Party with energy and loyalty, and are waiting for the chance to do just that. These plotters need to get their noses down and do some REAL work on behalf of their Party and the electorate which needs the valuable work of our strong opposition waiting in the wings for government, not daft demonstrations of divisive petulence, or they need not be surprised to find their days are numbered.

I am furious that the right in the Party are still determined to get Jeremy and John out and know that there are plans afoot to thwart any changes they want to make to be more inclusive of the membership as at the moment a few Non Jeremy supporters are making major decisions and do not want things to change. So I believe the right are planning to make sure they stay in control at the Party Conference in September, so be prepared and make sure they do not get their way
