George Osborne quitting politics for now allegedly

Op-Ed; Former Tory Chancellor and MP for Tatton George Osborne is to stand down at the June election. He has however said he is quitting politics "for now."

Is that a threat or a promise Mr Osborne?

Sacked as Chancellor by incoming PM Theresa May in 2016 George has had a lucrative few months if not years.

There has been calls for Osborne to quit as MP for Tatton since he took on the role of editor at the London Evening Standard but he refused to budge until now.

Apart from a clear breach of ethics Osborne looked set to have little if any time for his constituents and constituency work.

As Sky News reported in early March, managing along the way to have a stab at Labour veteran John Prescott "If John Prescott was "two jags" then George Osborne, who is taking over as editor of the Evening Standard, is surely destined to be "six jobs". "
:: He's a speaker at the Washington Speaker's Bureau, where he has a lucrative contract to perform after-dinner speeches around the world

:: He's a chairman of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership (not an obvious position for the editor of London's biggest newspaper)

:: He's an advisor to the American fund management firm Blackrock. He's thought to be paid £650,000 a year (yes, you read that right) for working one day a week for the company (yes, you read that right as well)

:: He's a fellow at the McCain Institute, an American think tank

:: He will be (as of mid-May) the editor of London's Evening Standard newspaper

:: And oh yes ... he's (still) the MP for Tatton (a salary of £75,000 a year plus expenses).

His "i`ll be back" type of statement leaves this blogger wondering as what?

Could he be shuffling off to the House of Lords as a rich reward for his Evening Standard writing during the election campaign?

The Evening Standard will hardly be unbiased but rather an outsourced arm of political campaigning for the Tory Party and its chummies.

Labour activist Barb Roberts tells us that publication is free at times. A good way for Tory propaganda to feed into the psyche and minds of the electorate?

However Barb says " It's been free for a few years now. Quite a hooh har at the time because of the sellers and vendors losing their jobs and pitches. Some of whom had been vendors for many years and their cries of Evenin Stannard! was well known in by all. They had regular customers who often tipped- keep the change- which boosted their not very well paid incomes!"

Interesting but Barb also says "Note to all London & suburbs comrades where the Evening Standard is given away freely- Pick up as many copies as you can and deposit them in the nearest recycling bin! We can't affect the number of copies printed but we can do our bit to ensure that their editorial damming lies and smears be read by few a people as possible!"

Yes where there is a will there is a way.

Theresa May and the Tory Party will be using the tried and tested spin doctor Lynton Crosby who was rewarded with a knighthood after Cameron's win in 2015.

May is already spinning a web of deceit which includes lies that the Labour Party would support the Liberal Democrats. That is of course more Tory nonsense or as we could say lies.

The Liberal Democrats hope to gain seats in BRemain areas of the UK but would happily prop up a Tory government again if needed. They did that from 2010 to 2015 and helped bring in the infamous Bedroom Tax and hit some of the most vulnerable and poorest people of the UK.

Tories and Lib Dems may have short memories but hopefully the electorate will not.

As for fat cat George Osborne often called Cokehead for unknown reasons if you cannot see what he is read:
  1. Osborne contradictions and spin on Marr made me dizzy
  2. Osborne one nation working people budget
  3. Chancellor Osborne budget spin cannot hide the truth
  4. Osbornes country pile gets National Trust hand out
  5. Chancellor Osborne Land Registry sell off
  6. Osborne promises or is that threatens further cuts
  7. HS2 now as Osborne hands China the keys to Britain
  8. George Osborne rebrands National Insurance
  9. Fiery Commons afternoon Osborne no show
  10. George Osborne can shout as much as he likes Budget Fails
  11. Osborne using public money to fund private corporations, more cuts ahead
  12. Bullingdon Boy Osborne budget for the people

Sackings and appointments as Theresa May tries for new start Cabinet

PictureCameron's old Cabinet toast
Op-Ed: Wednesday the Cameron's vacated Number 10 Downing Street for rich pastures new although Cameron the old Etonian Bullingdon Club boy will remain in the House of Commons for now as a Tory backbencher.

Unelected Theresa May and her husband moved in as the Camerons left.

Such is life in politics at times.

One leaves by one door as one moves in by another.

May made a speech aimed at appealing to a wide variety of British people but remember her time in government during the Tory's time in office since 2010 speak more than hollow words crafted by a spin doctor.

David Cameron won the 2015 General election by a narrow margin on the promise of an EU referendum.

Now the referendum has played out and Cameron has resigned does Ms May really have a mandate to govern the country?

Such a pity that some self indulgent Labour MPs choose now to attempt a party leadership coup.

Ms May began forming her new Cabinet of Ministers after saying it would not simply be a reshuffle but a brand spanking new cabinet.

She was true to her word on that, up to a point.

But for those who oppose the Tories there has been some satisfaction learning that Chancellor George Osborne was sacked Wednesday evening and Thursday morning Education Minister Nicky Morgan was given her marching orders.

Wednesday Osborne tried to say he resigned but it did not take long for 'sources' to report the truth, he was sacked?

It appears that for all his words that he would leave the UK economy in good condition May did not agree.

There have been new appointments that look like payback such as Boris Johnson who bowed out of the leadership race and has been rewarded with a top job.

Michael Gove who took May on instead of Johnson has also got the boot.

At time of writing the state of play is:
  • Theresa May is the country's new Prime Minister
  • Boris Johnson is appointed Foreign Secretary
  • George Osborne sacked, replaced by Philip Hammond
  • David Davis is appointed Brexit Secretary
  • Amber Rudd is appointed Home Secretary
  • Michael Fallon will continue as Secretary of State for Defence
  • Liam Fox is to head a new department for international trade
  • Nicky Morgan is sacked as Education Secretary & Min for Women & Equalities
  • The new Cabinet will include more women than men
  • John Whittingdale is sacked as Culture secretary; Mr Whittingdale was in hot water months ago: "Whittingdale, BBC bias, scandals and reputations."
  • Michael Gove was sacked this morning as Justice Secretary; political pundits Wednesday wondered whether Chris Grayling would fill that role in the new Cabinet and many assessed he would be a disaster
  • Jeremy Hunt minister for Health lost his job this morning too along with Oliver Letwin reported the Express but hold that thought. According to the BBC's Laura Kuennsberg Hunt stays at Health!
  • Thursday's sackings are over the phone
  • Liz Truss tells the media camped out in Downing Street that she has got the job of Justice Secretary; we urge you to watch the footage at the end of this report!
We will update this report as more appointments, sackings and resignations are announced.

David Davis local MP for Haltemprice and Howden, has tried for Conservative Party leadership previously and failed and is a long standing BRexit supporter.

The rest have a great deal of baggage.

In 2010 and 2011 Dr Liam Fox was in hot water. BBC News in 2011 reported:

Defence Secretary Liam Fox has apologised over his working relationship with his former flatmate and best man Adam Werritty.

Mr Fox said it was "a mistake to allow distinctions to be blurred between my professional responsibilities and my personal loyalties to a friend".
Mr Werritty, who is not employed by the MoD nor has national security clearance, joined meetings with Mr Fox.

The prime minister has demanded answers on Monday.
The defence secretary, who is back in Britain following a trip to Libya, now faces an MoD inquiry into his working relationship with Mr Werritty.
Mr Fox has also been under pressure over revelations that Mr Werritty, 34, made regular visits to see him at the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

BBC political editor Nick Robinson said a finding that Mr Fox had done anything wrong in terms of breaking the ministerial code would "end his career as defence secretary and end his time in the Cabinet".
Like so many others though Fox scuttled off to the backbenches and is now back in pole position.

Boris Johnson appears to have mass appeal but he is more than a bumbling buffoon.

During 2016 he first virtually stabbed David Cameron in the back by running with the BRexit campaign and then did the same to Michael Gove.

Boris knew exactly what he was aiming for.

Ms May presumably is following the old advice to keep her enemies close.

But Boris as Foreign Secretary takes the biscuit. Here are just a few Boris' stories:
  1. Boris Johnson West Bank cancellations
  2. Boris Johnson approves yet more unaffordable London homes
  3. Boris Johnson accused of Garden Bridge duplicity
  4. Theresa May pours cold water on Boris Johnson water cannon plan
  5. UK EU referendum, let the mind manipulation begin
  6. Boris Johnson part Kenyan description of Obama stinks
  7. London Mayor Boris being sued over ban of anti gay advert
  8. Boris Johnson denies corruption allegations
  9. London Mayor Boris being sued over ban of anti gay advert
  10. Boris Johnson fails IQ test after slamming the poor
Still Ms May has also made the news for the wrong reasons at times.

In June 2016 we reported "Against recommendations Theresa May pushes for more surveillance."

On social media last night Junior Doctors who have been fighting against the implementation of new working contracts were tweeting hopes that Jeremy Hunt Minister for health would be toast. Will he?

    British political scene

The next General Election in the UK may not be scheduled any time soon but the British political landscape is changing. With that in mind this blog will concentrate on the political scene but with a left wing perspective. Opinion pieces and news will bring you the stories that the MSM prefer to ignore.

The writer, Eileen Kersey, is a lifelong Labour Party supporter and voter but fairly recent party member.
