Primark breastfeeding liar could be jailed

Caroline Starmer, 28, claimed a male Primark security guard had snatched her baby from her breast during a breast feeding row in a Leicester store but she lied.

She claimed the guard 'assaulted' her as she tried to feed her nine-and-a-half-month old baby daughter on July 13.

A couple of weeks later she was charged with intent to pervert the course of justice and Thursday she has had her day in court.

Starmer appeared at Leicester Crown Court, pleaded guilty and was warned she could be jailed when sentenced in December.

Is a jail sentence really appropriate for a young mother?

That said her lies could have resulted in the sacking off the security guard and a loss of income.

Maybe the guard could sue her for defamation of character?

Primark were quick to refute the allegation after viewing in-store CCTV footage. Surely Starmer realised that CCTV was in operation in the cut-price shopping Primark store?

Perhaps it was one of those white lies that quickly snowballed and became out of control?

Starmer made the accusation in a Facebook post and as is the way in 21st Century news the story was picked up and went viral in no time at all.

In the post [on Facebook], she said she picked a quiet spot in Primark to feed her daughter but was then challenged by a security guard who asked her to leave."I stood my ground and stated my rights, that I can legally feed where I want," she wrote.

"Just for the security officer to physically remove my daughter from my breast and walk down the store with her, saying if I wanted my daughter, then I was to come and get her."

Leicestershire Police investigated her claims but she was charged with intent to pervert the course of justice. BBC News
