Katie Hopkins moving to new job at Mail Online

When the name of a a 'celebrity' or famous person' is trending on Twitter it sometimes means they have died. Would it be cruel to comment that is sadly not the case Thursday as Katie Hopkins trends on Twitter in the UK?

That is the sort of comment Hopkins makes regularly about all and sundry not caring who she may offend as long as it brings the money in.

Hopkins is to the right of British politics and a single mother. She has carved a 'celebrity' career out of appearing on the Apprentice and later as a column writer in Murdoch Tory rag The Sun.

Born Katie Olivia Hopkins February 13, 1975, she is now classed as a British television personality and columnist.

But Hopkins is always a busy lady and that list of offense is just the tip of the iceberg.

So why is she trending on Twitter Thursday?

Her contract with The Sun ends this week and she will post her final column for that 'newspaper' on Friday. Reports claim she resigned from the Sun Thursday; sadly though she will be back writing but this time for the Mail Online.

Did she jump ship or was she pushed? Do we really care?

Either could be true. After posting a terrible piece referring to migrants as cockroaches she refused to apologise for her harsh words even after the death of young Aylan Kurdi.

According to the Independent "Hopkins said she was “delighted” to be joining the site as she announced the news in a statement on Thursday, a few weeks after she faced a growing backlash over a dehumanising comment piece about refugees."

She is likely to be in good company at the Mail Online a publication that is not renowned for its accuracy and one that loves to post sleazy news as available.

"Confirming her appointment, a representative for the MailOnline said: “At MailOnline we operate without fear or favour and this is something that Katie is known the world over for. “Katie’s column is a must read for people across Britain and around the globe. Even if you don’t agree with what she says, she certainly knows how to engage and entertain an audience.”

For sensible people it is a must not read pure and simple.

Hopkins looks for sensationalism and usually manages this by attack. She makes money at the expense of others be they refugees, fat people or feminists.

The Guardian view is that moving to the Mail Online will give Hopkins a global audience and further her 'career'.
