Breaking news Thursday in the UK was a 14-year-old girl had been abducted and sexually assaulted on her way to school Wednesday.
Later Thursday it was confirmed she was raped and by more than one man.
She was walking to school Wednesday morning around 8.25am BST when two white men in a car grabbed her. That happened on a busy street.
She was found around four hours later knocking on doors trying to get help.
It appears there was no room at the inn though as "She was found by officers over a mile away, on Cavendish Drive, Marston, at midday after she had knocked on nearby houses seeking help. Builders working nearby said they had seen her sitting on a nearby wall before police and an ambulance arrived."
Police think she was possibly "hugged" into the car rather than "dragged" saying her injuries are consistent with this.
"Thames Valley police said the schoolgirl was wearing uniform when she was taken at 8.25am by two white men in a silver hatchback car, possible a Volkswagen, from the area of Marston Ferry Road and Banbury Road."
That is a fairly upmarket and busy area of Oxford.
Police are investigating whether the abduction and rape is linked to a sex attack on a teenager less than a mile away, last weekend. That assault on a 19-year-old teenage girl Sunday also involved two men in a car. She managed to escape them and has described her attackers as aged late teens or early 20's.
Det Supt Chris Ward, head of Thames Valley Police major crimes unit, said: “There are a number of other inquiries going on in relation to this. One of those is to look at similar or other attacks that have happened.“We are not linking this to anything else at the moment, but we are at a very early stage, should we do that, we will release that information. That’s part of the investigation."
Late Wednesday police officers involved in the case tweeted "Appeal for witnesses after a serious incident in Oxford this morning. Please read the full details and call 101."
Anyone with information must come forward.
Police are increasing patrols in the area and are advising parents to accompany children and locals to stay vigilant until the men are apprehended.
Thursday evening BBC News reports "Local police commander Supt Christian Bunt said: "I recognise that this is a very concerning incident for everyone in Oxford. "This type of extremely serious crime is fortunately very rare in Oxford but is still very worrying. "My local policing teams will be working hard in support of the major crime investigation. "I am putting in place additional patrols to provide reassurance. "We will also be working closely with the local schools to provide information and support."
