Donald Trump: Money can’t buy you everything

Donald Trump is one of the richest Americans and seemingly could buy anything—including the presidency perhaps. But his power and money could not keep him as host of the television show “Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC.

Trump’s astonishing, jaw dropping speech declaring he was a candidate for the presidential nomination for the Republican Party included a denigrating section about Mexicans stunning everyone who witnessed it. Apparently as a result of the insult to Latinos, NBC informed Trump “You’re fired,” and he will not be hosting the show any longer, but the show will continue.

NBC made the decision after a petition circulated calling for the host of “The Celebrity Apprentice” to be let go from the network drew more than 200,000 signatures, NBC signaled Trump using the famous phrase: “You’re fired,” according to International Business Times.

In a statement to BuzzFeed, NBC said it will no longer air the Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants but will continue its relationship with “The Celebrity Apprentice” since Trump indicated he will no longer be involved with the program due to his presidential bid. NBC has aired the pageants for 12 years and was scheduled to broadcast Miss USA on July 12.

The business mogul has a reputation for making outlandish incendiary statements about immigrants and US immigration policy. In the statement posted on the network's website, NBC reiterated its commitment to "respect and dignity for all people" and cited "derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants" as the primary reason for the termination of their business relationship.

“Trump has been hosting “The Apprentice” since 2004. NBC introduced the concept of a celebrity edition in 2008, and it is the current iteration of the show. The Celebrity Apprentice aired Season 7 (or the series’ Season 14) in January,” they said.

The derogatory racist remarks about Mexican immigrants came under scrutiny when he declared, “[Mexico is] sending people that have lots of problems, and they are bringing those problems to us. They are bringing drugs, and bringing crime, and their rapists.”

Latino artists associated with Miss USA withdrew from the event and the Spanish-language network Univision decided to not air the pageant over Trump’s remarks. A grassroots campaign began on Change.org urging NBC to cut ties with the “Celebrity Apprentice” host and “Dump Trump.”

Trump’s insensitivity to Mexicans casts a shadow also over his ability to govern all Americans—including all races--if he became president. First, however, he would have to receive the nomination and trust of the Republican Party, but after his disastrous announcement speech, he has little to no chance of ever getting the nomination. He is not the first presidential hopeful to be struck down by ill chosen words, and he probably won’t be the last.

Jokes about his hair are ubiquitous in the media! His contorted views, however, are the most troubling to me. And business men have not been successful when running for president. Ross Perot who was much less controversial used a business approach to run as third party candidate in 1992 and 1996 similar to Trumps but he was not successful in challenging.

I think Trump continues to announce a run for presidency every presidential election year to keep his name in the media as an expeditionary candidate only.

Iamgine such a man with his finger on 'the button' Yikes what a thought. I remember Joan Baez saying similar about Ronald Reagan when he was governor but Americans seem to remember him fondly these days. But Trump!

Hell we have to hope it wont last - maybe his number two slot is more to do with money or could it appealing as you say to the more crazy element of the GOP?
