As you can see from the lists above Hull almost made it to the number one position!
The figures do show a semi north south divide but not entirely. Just why some areas of the U.K. have populations hooked on smoking is not clear. These days you cannot smoke in a pub, at work or in numerous other places in England. Free help to quit smoking is available via the N.H.S. More people now 'vape' rather than smoke. Smoking can cause a range of health conditions, some life-threatening, but not all smokers get cancer and some non-smokers do. Air pollution remains bad in parts of the U.K. and is damaging to health. Cigarettes and tobacco are not displayed in supermarkets but rather stored behind closed doors. Do attempts to deter smoking act as a red rag to a bull and have the reverse effect on some young people? That is difficult to know. The newly released health watchdog data identifies parts of England where smoking is still a popular 'habit' and others where it is not. What can be done to bring down numbers in places such as Blackpool and Hull is not known. The court heard he claimed nearly £120,000 in "expenses" from his mother's estate but failed to pay £29,000 worth of care home fees. According to a Mail Online report; The court heard that Martin had paid himself £49,143.19 of his mother’s money for time he had spent on a dispute with a Welsh NHS board, which he said should have paid her care home fees. When the NHS Board conceded the case and reimbursed the fees, Martin paid the £68,146.26 cheque to himself, ‘in part payment for the costs he had incurred.’One would be hard pressed to find a more callous and calculating attorney, who has so flagrantly abused his position of trust. Opinion: This complacent, callous son could easily come a cropper.
It is possible that his 87-year-old Mum could outlive him. He could develop any number of illnesses before she dies including dementia. It is a pity that the court did not name and shame the 'rat' in this case. In court this week the judge said "The panel deputy will, for the first time in eleven years, place Sheila at the centre of the decision-making process, rather than view the preservation and enhancement of Martin’s inheritance as the paramount consideration." Go on Sheila-have a ball and spend, spend, spend! Alzheimer's financial advice
T.V. commercials featured a handsome (debatable point) James Bond type of character who undertook sometime death defying activity in order to deliver these chocolates to his love interest.
The advertising was very much of the 20th century but it seems the Cadbury team now think it has its place in the 21st Century. Cadbury was the nation's sweetheart as far as chocolate went but was taken over by US firm, Mondelez, and has lost some of its appeal here in the U.K. Can the Milk Tray man save the brand? James Coombes, the eighties MTM, has been promoting the search on British TV and more. He looks pretty much as he did when he first appeared on U.K. small screens in 1987, barring is now grey hair.(The original ad aired in 1968) The "all because the lady loves Milk Tray slogan looks set to stay but as the role could be filled by a man or a woman it may need tweaking. An egg thrown by a protester squarely hit him slap bang in the middle of his face and wiped a seedy smirk clean away.
Now I am all for free speech but if you wave a red rag at a bull you will get all that you ask for or so legend has it; so if you choose to use a red newspaper to goad a member of the left-wing of politics you will tend to get a reaction. According to the Independent "The edition of the newspaper featured a picture of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on its front page and appeared to antagonise the crowd"; are they having a laugh with that last sentence? The Independent report continues "Defying official party advice to keep a low profile, the man was wearing a dark suit with a tie, and union flag pocket handkerchief. He also had a Conservative conference lanyard around his neck, marking him out as an attendee." With an estimated 80,000 people attending the protest (which included speeches by musicians Charlotte Church and Billy Bragg, and writer Owen Jones) Lord Feldman had rightly advised Tories attending the conference to be almost incognito; ahead of Sunday he said "it was “particularly important” this year for Conservatives not to identify themselves to the general public in Manchester"; why what do they have to hide? But according to at least one person on Twitter, Matt Dathan, that did not happen. He tweeted "Tory delegates watch, wave & take pics on the other side of the security ring of steel as the anti-austerity protests." There are some reports that the egg-thrower was arrested but that is not confirmed. (There are reports of a largely good natured protest but reportedly there have been four arrests including one person for spitting on a journalist-but that report is in the Telegraph. According to the Mail Online -Marchers wear pig masks to mock PM over lurid allegations in new book) Telegraph She first appeared on British television as a contestant on the third UK series of The Apprentice in 2007. Our previous reports on the female big mouth that is Hopkins include Katie Hopkins attention seeks from Cilla Black death, Anti Katie Hopkins petition passes 250,000 mark, Has Katie Hopkins gifted Labour the election and Miss Nasty Katie Hopkins attacks Kelly Clarkson again. But Hopkins is always a busy lady and that list of offense is just the tip of the iceberg. So why is she trending on Twitter Thursday? Her contract with The Sun ends this week and she will post her final column for that 'newspaper' on Friday. Reports claim she resigned from the Sun Thursday; sadly though she will be back writing but this time for the Mail Online. Did she jump ship or was she pushed? Do we really care? Either could be true. After posting a terrible piece referring to migrants as cockroaches she refused to apologise for her harsh words even after the death of young Aylan Kurdi. According to the Independent "Hopkins said she was “delighted” to be joining the site as she announced the news in a statement on Thursday, a few weeks after she faced a growing backlash over a dehumanising comment piece about refugees." She is likely to be in good company at the Mail Online a publication that is not renowned for its accuracy and one that loves to post sleazy news as available. "Confirming her appointment, a representative for the MailOnline said: “At MailOnline we operate without fear or favour and this is something that Katie is known the world over for. “Katie’s column is a must read for people across Britain and around the globe. Even if you don’t agree with what she says, she certainly knows how to engage and entertain an audience.” For sensible people it is a must not read pure and simple. Hopkins looks for sensationalism and usually manages this by attack. She makes money at the expense of others be they refugees, fat people or feminists. The Guardian view is that moving to the Mail Online will give Hopkins a global audience and further her 'career'. From the Mail Online April 2015-Katie Hopkins branded 'toxic' following call to 'burn all the boats' in North Africa just hours after 900 migrants drowned on the treacherous journey to Europe.
Maybe the guard could sue her for defamation of character? Primark were quick to refute the allegation after viewing in-store CCTV footage. Surely Starmer realised that CCTV was in operation in the cut-price shopping Primark store? Perhaps it was one of those white lies that quickly snowballed and became out of control? Starmer made the accusation in a Facebook post and as is the way in 21st Century news the story was picked up and went viral in no time at all. In the post [on Facebook], she said she picked a quiet spot in Primark to feed her daughter but was then challenged by a security guard who asked her to leave."I stood my ground and stated my rights, that I can legally feed where I want," she wrote. Sentencing will be December 3.
The Independent reports "According to a police report seen by NBC Miami, Lopez told officers he flew into a rage and broke objects around the apartment after Ms Nemeth allegedly said her ex-husband’s name during sex."
The gruesome details continue thus - "Telling police he became a “monster”, Mr Lopez said he began to insert objects into Ms Nemeth, who was unconscious, and ripped out some of her intestinal tissue. After failing to revive his girlfriend by splashing water on her face, he called the emergency services." The couple had been living together for just one week. Lopez will not be given bail. Opinion: Capital punishment is legal in the US State of Florida. If Lopez is guilty of such a heinous crime he has to be one rabid dog that deserves to be put down. |
