Ten well-trained pigs took part in a swimming competition on Friday after jumping off a high platform at Shiyan Lake in central #China’s Changsha city. The race – full of amusement – attracted quite a crowd during the May Day holiday celebration. This is a short posting, but the Chinese have already said it all. Smart roadways is only one way. Another revolutionary concept would see solar islands tethered to lake or ocean bottoms. The photo array would be floating on a membrane that could pivot throughout the day, keeping all solar cells exposed to the sun and out of shadow. Water heated this way could power steam generators on land. The company developing this concept also has models that can be adapted to perform on flat roofs. Further, the solar island concept can be adapted to power desalination plants.
